MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Shellfish samples collected from the coastal towns of Anda and Bolinao now tested negative for red tide toxin, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Ilocos region (BFAR-1) said.
In an advisory issued Thursday night, BFAR-1 said the advisory was based on testing of shellfish meat collected from the two towns.
"All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan are now free from toxic red tide and safe for human consumption. Likewise, shellfish harvesting and marketing from these areas are permitted," it said.
Shellfish samples from the two towns tested positive for red tide toxin last Jan. 15.
The public was advised to refrain from gathering, selling, and eating all types of shellfish and Acetes, locally known as "alamang," from the coastal waters of the two towns to avoid possible paralytic shellfish poisoning. (PNA)
