KANLAON Volcano in Negros Island erupts on Thursday, Feb. 19.(Sam Pantalita)
BACOLOD CITY – Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island Region (NIR) explosively erupted on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 19, after episodes of ash emissions in the past weeks.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the activity past 4 p.m.
Some individuals in Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental shared captured videos and photos of the eruption on social media.
Sam Pantalita shared to Manila Bulletin that their house is just behind the volcano, approximately 5.4 kilometers away from its crater when she personally witnessed the eruption.
The eruption was also seen from the Barangay Cabacungan public plaza in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
The public was advised to be cautious of pyroclastic flow and ashfall caused by the eruption of towards the southwest at 4:39 p.m., according to an advisory from the Negros Occidental Operations Center.
The volcano situated in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, last erupted on Oct. 24, 2025, affecting thousands of residents in two Negros provinces.
