CAVITE – Authorities arrested three suspects for stealing a motorcycle in Dasmariñas City on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking.
The Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) identified the suspects as alias Remark, alias Rovic, and alias Jeff.
Initial investigation revealed that the driver of a company-owned motorcycle accidentally left the ignition key in the vehicle as it was parked in front of a store.
One of the suspects reportedly took the opportunity, started the engine, and drove away.
Fortunately, the motorcycle was equipped with a GPS device, which helped the responding officers from the Paliparan Police Substation of the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station to track its location.
The police caught the suspects in act of “tampering with and removing parts of the motorcycle.”
Authorities also recovered an improvised shotgun stashed in the vehicle’s compartment.
The suspects are now under the custody of the Dasmariñas CCPS and are facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Law of the Philippines and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
“The successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of the suspects within hours of the crime demonstrate the effectiveness of combining community vigilance with modern technology,” Cavite PPO Director Col. Ariel R. Red said in a statement.
He also reminded the public to remain cautious and to never leave keys inside their vehicles.
