CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan — Two police officers were commended for helping a pregnant woman safely deliver her baby inside a patrol car in Barangay Cattaran, Solana, Cagayan on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Police Corporal Avelino N. Bangayan and Police Patrolman Karl Nixon A. Mabborang of the Solana Police Station were conducting a routine mobile patrol when they noticed residents waiting for an ambulance for a woman who was about to give birth.
Upon the request of a barangay health worker (BHW), the two police officers immediately transported the woman to the Municipal Health Office (MHO).
However, the woman went into labor while en route to the health facility. With the assistance of the BHW, the baby was successfully delivered inside the patrol vehicle.
The mother and her newborn were later brought to the MHO for further medical attention.
Her family thanked Bangayan and Mabborang for their prompt response and compassion. They also lauded BHW Maribeth Layugan for her dedication.
Netizens cited the two policemen for being dependable partners of the community in times of emergency.
Police Regional Office-2 chief Police Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr. commended the two officers. Marallag said it reflects the evolving role of the police not only as law enforcers but also as lifesavers and community partners.
