One hundred couples from Cardona, Rizal were wed during the Kasalang Pamparokya (Diocesan Wedding) at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Cardona, Rizal on Thursday morning, Feb. 19.
The couples made history as they were the first to have been officially blessed in the church in the largest wedding event of the year and during the time that the diocese is celebrating the 400 years of the arrival of the miraculous image of the Nuestra Señora dela Paz y Buenviaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage) and the 100 years of the Marian image’s pontifical coronation.

Antipolo Bishop Ruperto C. Santos presided over the wedding rites assisted by Cardona Shrine's Rector, Fr. Reynante "Nante" Tolentino, at 10 a.m.
Fr. Nante said most of the couples are residents of Cardona while a few are from nearby municipalities. Most of them were married in civil rites.
The shrine's rector said the biggest free mass wedding event of the year, which is the gift of the Cardona shrine to the Antipolo shrine for the latter's 100 canonical coronation anniversary this year, was sponsored by Noel "Tiboy" Reyes and his wife Cherry, who are devotees of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and Cardona's La Virgen de Sapao (Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Cardona).

One groom was on a wheelchair when he and his bride joined the rest of the couples in the wedding march.
A 75-year old groom and his long time co-senior citizen partner were also among those who received the matrimonial blessing of the church.
The reception had to be done in two separate covered courts in Cardona, with each married couple bringing with them eight guests to partake of the catered food as part of the free wedding event. Some 800 guests and 200 volunteers joined the lunch reception for the 100 newly wed couples.
Fr. Nante, who has recently been reelected as president of the Association of Catholic Shrines and Pilgrimages in the Philippines, told the Manila Bulletin that the shrine continues to invite unwed couples to receive the sacrament of matrimony for free provided they have the complete requirements.
