Tinio shudders at the thought of 'another Duterte presidency'

House Assistant Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio enumerated on Wednesday, Feb. 18 the supposed "legacies" left by former president Rodrigo Duterte.
The ranking solon did so shortly after the latter's daughter, incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte, declared her intention to run for the Palace seat in the 2028 elections.
Tinio, a member of Makabayan bloc, was among the congressmen who criticized the lady official's move. He didn't hold back about his reservations on another "Duterte presidency".
"Ano ba ang maasahan sa isang Duterte presidency nanaman? Mataas na presyo ng bilihin, lalo na ng bigas; Rice Tariffication Law, yung mas mataas na buwis sa TRAIN at sa create--yan ang mga legacy ni Duterte. Bukod pa dun sa pagiging tuta ng China," the outspoken solon said.

The elder Duterte served as chief executive from 2016 to 2022. The Makabayan bloc members were critics for most of his administration, and they have no love lost for his daughter, either.
Tinio underscored the need for Vice President Duterte to undergo impeachment proceedings, her presidential bid declaration notwithstanding.
"Kaya dapat talaga ma-impeach itong si Vice President Sara Duterte para hindi na makatakbo at hindi na mabudol uli ang sambayanang Pilipino (Vice President Sara Duterte should really be impeached so she cannot run again and deceive the Filipino people once more)," he said.
"Talaga namang matutuloy na yung impeachment. Malinaw na yung timing niya ng announcement niya ay para din panggulo. Pusit tactics nanaman ito para siya ang pag-usapan at ipakita na inaapi siya kuno," the party-list solon further claimed.
(The impeachment will indeed push through. it is clear that the timing of her announcement was meant to cause disruption. These are squid tactics once again, meant to draw attention to herself and portray that she is supposedly being oppressed.)
"Pero matagal nang hinihingi ng taumbayan ang pagpapanagot sa P612.5 million na confidential funds lalo na yung P125 million na winaldas in 11 days na kauupo palang niya bilang Vice President," Tinio said.
(But the people have long demanded accountability for the P612.5 million in confidential funds, especially the P125 million spent in just 11 days after she assumed office as Vice President.)
Tinio is an endorser of one of the three impeachment complaints filed so far against the Vice President.
