"My reaction is I just want to keep yung sa amin ni Cat private. I don't have any comments," said Sam when asked about his reaction to Cat's statement made during an interview with Karen Davila on YouTube.
When grilled if he was surprised by Catriona's statement, Sam answered, "Was I surprised? Yeah. I was surprised. We're friends."
In the interview, Catriona revealed the reason for her split with Sam.
"There was a point in our relationship where I think he just realized that he wasn't ready to take it to the stage of commitment that we were on, because he had proposed," Catriona said.
She added, "And then, a few months later, he realized that hindi pala siya ready. So that was very hurtful to me, and I was really blindsided at the time. I really tried to make it work.
"I tried to make it work, so I was willing to adjust 'cause siguro when you love someone, you are willing to understand them.
"Pero, it got to a point na, at that age, and what we've been through, kung hindi ka pa rin sure, I think that's an answer already," the beauty queen-turned-actress said.
Catriona, 32, also said that the split was a difficult decision.
"It was one of the hardest things to do but I realized I needed to choose myself in that moment 'cause I've already given so much in trying to adjust, ako ang mag-gi-give dito, it's okay I will be understanding. And I don't look down on myself in that moment because I did it because I love the person.

"Pero at the end of the day, if it is not a relationship that is giving two-way, and also as a woman I want to have a family, I want to get married, and I'd love to be a mom one day, and so I really want a partner who values me and sees that future with me too. Ayokong ma-wait around for someone to figure out," Catriona said.
Cat and Sam confirmed their relationship in May 2020. They announced their engagement in February 2023. In 2025, they confirmed their separation.
Sam, 41, also shared how he celebrated Valentine's Day.
"Actually, my sister was out for 45 days. Nasa akin yung mga bata. It was Tito time. Hatid-sundo sa school. Play basketball with my pamangkin. My friends came over and made a great dinner. That was it," the actor said.
Sam also said that he's not dating anybody these days.
"No. I am not. Wala. I am not seeing anybody. It's not walang oras. I do. I just haven't met anybody. I don't really go out that much. I don't think I have given anybody a chance to meet somebody new.
“When you get older, you just want to relax. When you were younger, you just wanted to go out and have some drinks. Pero ngayon, I'm okay. I'm also a bit of an introvert," Sam also said.
Moving on, Sam said he's not closing his doors to another relationship. "I am excited when that time comes also." The full interview:
