Gun runner shot dead in Cabuyao buy-bust

CABUYAO CITY, Laguna – A suspected gun runner was shot dead by the police in a buy-bust operation here on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Police identified the victim as Paul.
Investigation said Paul noticed that he was dealing with lawmen and grabbed the firearm from the police poseur-buyer.
Paul pointed it at the undercover operative, prompting his colleagues to shoot. The suspect was wounded and taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Lawmen conducted verification in the PNP e-Warrant System and found out that the suspect had a warrant of arrest for robbery with force upon things issued by the Calamba City Regional Trial Court Branch 36 dated Jan. 27, 2014. No bail was recommended.
Recovered from the suspect were a gun, bullets, steel magazine, boodle money, and a cellular phone.
The operation was conducted in line with the “Oplan: Paglalansag Omega” campaign against illegal possession of firearms.
Meanwhile, a man was hacked to death by his drinking partner on Tuesday night in Barangay Bulakin 1, Dolores, Quezon.
Police identified the victim as Alvin.
Investigation said Alvin and the suspect Aldwin were having a drinking spree at the suspect's residence when Aldwin suddenly hacked the victim with a bolo.
Alvin was able to run and sought help from the suspect's neighbor but Aldwin chased him and
hacked him again. Alvin died on the spot.
The suspect fled towards San Pablo City, Laguna.
Follow-up investigation and manhunt operation are ongoing.
An 87-year-old farmer drowned while crossing the river on his way home in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Concepcion, Quezon, Quezon.
Police identified the victim as Antonio.
The victim was last seen alive gathering bananas and about to cross the river on his way home on Monday afternoon.
His body was discovered floating on the river and an inspection of his cadaver found no indications of foul play.
A 21-year-old gasoline station attendant also drowned while swimming on the Agos River in Infanta, Quezon, on Tuesday morning.
Police identified the victim as Teriso Caguil.
Caguil was swimming alone beside their floating cottage when he submerged and disappeared due to the strong river current.
Authorities are searching for the victim.
