If you regularly use Facebook Messenger on your desktop via messenger.com, its days are numbered: the site is reportedly set to close starting April 14, 2026.
Messenger has become an integral part of our lives. We have group chats for family, work, different groups of friends, and so on. While others may prefer platforms such as Viber, Telegram, or Instagram for group chats or private messaging, Facebook Messenger remains the preferred option.
According to the Digital 2026 report, released by media, social, and consumer intelligence company Meltwater and creative agency We Are Social, Facebook (Meta) Messenger is the most popular messaging app in the Philippines, with 90.6% of respondents reporting they used it at least once in the past month.
As of April 14, 2026, users entering messenger.com in their address bar will be redirected to facebook.com/messages, effectively ending Messenger as a standalone website.
Don’t worry, your chat history is not going anywhere and will remain available on Facebook or in the Messenger mobile app. But for users who use Messenger without a Facebook account, web access will no longer be available. You would need to use the mobile app to keep using Messenger.
These changes have been in the works since 2023, with Meta finally consolidating Messenger into Facebook.
