Family of slain Taguig cop welcomes filing of murder charges vs suspects
The family of slain Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her son, eight-year-old John Ysmael, welcomed the filing of murder charges -- rather than robbery with homicide -- against the three suspects.
Diane Marie and John Ysmael, both Taguig residents, were found dead after they went missing on Jan. 16.
Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido, Diane Marie's husband, reported them missing to the Taguig police on Jan. 19.
Diane Marie's body was found in Pulilan, Bulacan on Jan. 24 while John Ysmael's body was found on Jan. 29 in Victoria, Tarlac.
The police filed two counts of murder against Pia Katrina Panganiban, former policeman Christian Panganiban,Gil Dy Jr.
"The Office of the Prosecutor has issued a Resolution finding probable cause for two counts of Murder in connection with the killing of PSMS Diane Marie Mollenido and her son. This affirms the position consistently maintained by the family that the evidence on record establishes qualifying circumstances under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, warranting charges for Murder rather than Robbery with Homicide," said Cristobal Rimanod, lawyer of John.
He added, "While this is a significant step forward, the family remains mindful that the case now proceeds to trial where the evidence will be fully examined. They continue to seek justice through lawful and proper judicial processes."
John and Maribel Panganiban, sister of Christian, were not included in the case. John was considered a person of interest in the case.
Last Feb. 14, Rimando accompanied John in filing a counter-affidavit in connection with a complaint for alleged obstruction of justice filed by the Philippine National Police in Pulilan, Bulacan.
He filed a separate complaint against the owner and certain employees of a funeral parlor based on sworn statements they previously executed. The funeral parlor was in-charge of the remains of Diane Marie.
