Social Security System (SSS), the state-run pension fund for private-sector workers, booked a sharp surge in net income to ₱143 billion in 2025, fueled by improved collection efficiency and prudent fund management. This boosted total assets and pushed its reserve fund past the ₱1-trillion mark for the first time.
In a statement on Monday, Feb. 16, SSS said net earnings last year significantly increased by 58.4 percent from ₱90.3 billion in 2024.
Total assets likewise expanded by 22.1 percent to ₱1.26 trillion from ₱1.03 trillion a year earlier.
Notably, the SSS reserve fund also topped the ₱1-trillion mark in 2025—the first time in the state insurer’s history. This, according to the Department of Finance (DOF), enables SSS to withstand economic shocks, handle pressures from the growing number of retirees, and meet future benefit obligations.
DOF Secretary and Social Security Commission (SSC) Chair Frederick D. Go said this solid performance and a reserve fund of over ₱1 trillion signal that SSS members’ pensions are secure and their benefits are sustainable. SSC is SSS’s policy-making and governing body.
“We are building a social security system that is financially resilient and more responsive to the needs of every Filipino,” Go said.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Joseph Montes De Claro said these gains were due to continued fiscal discipline, tighter fund governance, and long-term reforms aimed at protecting members’ contributions and maintaining the fund’s financial sustainability.
“This performance reflects prudent stewardship of members’ contributions, strengthened governance, and our continuing commitment to deliver secure and sustainable benefits—today and for generations to come,” De Claro said.
SSS rolled out its first-ever annual pension hike in 2025, granting yearly increases of 10 percent for retirement and disability pensions and five percent for survivor pensions from 2025 to 2027.
Such reform is seen as propping up household consumption among pensioners and driving economic activity.
Last year, SSS released ₱304.9 billion in pensions and benefits to 5.7 million members nationwide. It also extended ₱61.1 billion in loans, providing financial support to workers and their families.
Interest rates on major loan facilities were likewise trimmed from 10 percent to eight percent during the year, easing borrowing costs for members.
Moreover, its pension loan program was expanded to include survivor pensioners, extending loan access to an additional 1.2 million members.
Go vowed that SSS will continue rolling out micro and calamity loans to provide financial support to its members.
