Kanlaon Volcano emitted grayish ash plumes from its summit crater on Feb. 16, 2026, rising about 150 meters before drifting southwest, as recorded by the IP camera at the KVO-CC Observatory in Canlaon City. The volcano remains under Alert Level 2 amid continued unrest. (Phivolcs)
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that grayish ash plumes rose from the summit of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island on Monday, Feb. 16, as the volcano remained under Alert Level 2.
Time-lapse footage from the Canlaon City Observatory showed the plumes rising about 150 meters from the crater between 1:10 p.m. and 1:13 p.m. before drifting southwest.
Monitoring from 12 a.m. Feb. 15 to 12 a.m. Feb. 16 recorded six volcanic earthquakes, while sulfur dioxide emissions were last measured at 1,124 tons on Feb. 15.
Phivolcs said the volcano remains in a state of increased unrest (Alert Level 2).
It warned that short-lived steam-driven or explosive eruptions could occur, producing hazards such as pyroclastic density currents, ashfall, rockfalls, and ballistic projectiles.
Residents within the four-kilometer permanent danger zone are advised to remain evacuated, while those within six kilometers of the summit should stay alert.
Communities near rivers and streams draining the volcano are urged to watch for lahars during heavy rainfall.
Likewise, civil aviation authorities have been advised to avoid flying near the summit.
