BACOLOD CITY – A nine-year-old girl killed in a brutal attack in their home in Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Feb. 7 was laid to rest on Sunday, Feb. 15
Her mother, Ronelyn, broke down in tears as she sought justice for her daughter during the interment at the Silay Public Cemetery.
Mayor Joedith Gallego, who attended the burial, renewed his call for witnesses to come forward and help authorities identify and arrest the suspect.
“Come forward. Do not be afraid,” the mayor urged in a radio interview, emphasizing the need to bring justice to the victim.
“This is a very sad day for the family,” he said.
Ronelyn shared the pain of losing her daughter in a Facebook post.
“Grabe kasakit bilang Isa ka iloy. Wala tupong ang ka sakit nga nabatyag ko. Hidlaw-hidlaw na gid si Mama sa imo (It hurts so much as a mother to see your child being mistreated. The pain I feel is unbearable. Mama misses you so much),” Ronelyn said.
Ronelyn was repatriated while working in Saudi Arabia.
The victim and her two siblings – a 14-year-old sister and a four-year-old brother – were alone at home when an unidentified assailant attacked and hit their heads with a stone.
The victim’s two siblings survived and recuperating in a hospital.
Their father discovered the incident on Feb. 7 when he returned home from work.
