The Phase 1 of the rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) is on track for completion by July 2026 under a compressed eight-month schedule, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said Monday, Feb. 16.
In a press conference, Dizon said the initial segment from Roxas Boulevard to Orense is nearly 50 percent complete.
Portions without sidewalks are targeted for completion in May, while the rest of the stretch will follow the overall timeline.
The shorter timeline, a sharp reduction from the previous two-year plan, is intended to fast-track long-delayed repairs along Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare, which serves hundreds of thousands of commuters and motorists daily.
Dizon said the accelerated schedule aims to immediately improve road safety and driving conditions along the major artery.
Rehabilitation activities began on Dec. 24, 2025, with round-the-clock reblocking operations and asphalt overlay of busway lanes carried out until 4 a.m. of Jan. 5, 2026.
The works took advantage of lighter holiday traffic to speed up progress.
Since Jan. 5, activities have shifted to a 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. schedule, with asphalt overlay conducted lane by lane for both northbound and southbound directions from Monday to Friday.
More extensive reblocking and asphalt overlay activities are carried out from Friday to Sunday, one lane per direction, as the agency continues to restore pavement and upgrade road structures.
The traffic management scheme will remain in effect until May 31, 2026, while structural and pavement works continue.
