Appointments and promotions in theDepartment of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will follow performance standards to end the long-standing practice of political referrals, a top official said on Monday, Feb. 16.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said officials, including regional directors, district engineers, and assistant district engineers, will be evaluated on three key criteria: timely and quality completion of projects, prompt repair and maintenance of roads and bridges, immediate response to natural and manmade disasters
He noted that promotions and appointments will follow these standards once the new department order is signed on Monday.
“If there is a damaged road, potholes, or a broken flood-control structure, repairs and maintenance must be fast and of good quality, and if they fail in this, they will be removed and immediately replaced,” Dizon said.
Officials’ performance will be reviewed annually, ensuring that results, not personal connections, determine career progression within the DPWH.
