3 weather systems to bring scattered rain showers to parts of the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Feb. 16 said three weather systems will continue affecting the country over the next 24 hours, bringing scattered rain showers to several areas.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area is currently being monitored within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
However, Dominguez explained that the shear line, northeast monsoon (amihan), and easterlies are the dominant weather systems in country.
The shear line, formed when cold air from the northeast monsoon meets warm air from the east (easterlies), will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Cagayan and Isabela.
Dominguez said the amihan has slightly weakened affecting mainly Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, and the Babuyan Islands, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected.
She added that gusts are still possible in the coming days, though temperatures are not expected to be as cold as in previous days.
Moreover, warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, are affecting Aurora and Quezon, producing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and most other areas of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
Dominguez said no gale warning is currently in effect, and small boats and other sea vessels are safe to sail.
