Taguig City is set to become a major hub in the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), hosting five of the planned stations along the 33-km railway line that will connect Valenzuela City to Parañaque City.
The subway project will also feature a spur line leading directly to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
On Feb. 13, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kalayaan Avenue and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) underground stations and tunnels of the MMSP.
He was joined by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya, and Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.
Taguig will have five of the 17 stations of the MMSP: Kalayaan Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Lawton East (McKinley Hill/McKinley West), Senate–DepEd, and FTI (Arca South).
The city government said the five stations located in the city highlights Taguig’s growing importance as a center of business, employment, and urban development.
“We are grateful for the continued trust of our national government partners. The City of Taguig remains fully supportive of projects that improve mobility, create opportunities, and enhance the quality of life of our residents and workers,” said Cayetano.
Once operational, the subway is expected to serve hundreds of thousands of passengers daily and significantly reduce travel time across Metro Manila.
