Far Eastern University wasted no time making its intentions clear in UAAP Season 88.
Clear communication proved to be the difference-maker for FEU as it opened its redemption campaign with a commanding 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 sweep of De La Salle University on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
According to head coach Eddieson Orcullo, the Tamaraws’ ability to stay connected and unified on the floor fueled their strong start.
“Yung communication lang talaga, doon kami nagkakaunawaan. Walang hindi malinaw sa ginagawa namin. Lahat kami naka-all in doon sa communication na ginagawa namin, plus ‘yung brotherhood — masasabi natin na buong-buo iyon,” said Orcullo.
Best player Dryx Saavedra and Ariel Cacao agreed, emphasizing unity and composure as key elements in their strong opening performance.
“Lagi naman namin pinag-uusapan sa team na kahit anong situation sa loob ng court, kahit outside the court, kailangan piliin namin na maging kalmado. Big factor talaga ang kalma, lalo na pag crucial. Hindi puwedeng ma-rattle kami. Pinipili naming pag-usapan — doon namin nakuha yung good communication sa loob ng court,” said Saavedra, who finished with 16 points off 15 kills.
“Sinasabi ko lang na dapat bawat isa nasa iisang page lang, na iisa lang ang gusto naming mangyari,” added Cacao.
The Tamaraws aim to sustain their strong start when they face the University of the East Red Warriors on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
