Authorities arrested two men for illegal possession of drugs and firearms during a police anti-criminality operation ducted in Las Piñas City on Feb. 14.
Col. Wilson Delos Santos, Las Piñas City Police chief, said the suspects, both 24 years old and residents of Navotas and Malabon City, were apprehended at around 3:30 a.m. on Padre Diego Cera Avenue in Barangay Elias Aldana, Las Piñas City.
Delos Santos said operatives from the Las Piñas City Police Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit were conducting a routine anti-criminality patrol when they spotted and flagged down the suspects for not wearing proper safety helmets.
One of the suspects attempted to evade arrest but was immediately prevented by the operatives. During the inspection, authorities found in his possession approximately 100 grams of suspected shabu valued at P680,000 and a 9mm caliber pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were brought to Las Piñas District Hospital for medical examination before being detained at the police custodial facility.
They are facing charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
