PAGASA: Cyclone-free celebrations expected on Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year
Love and luck may be on your side this Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said celebrations will remain tropical cyclone-free.
PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto said no tropical cyclones are likely to form or enter the country’s area of responsibility in the next three to five days.
However, she said three weather systems—the shear line, northeast monsoon (amihan), and easterlies—may bring rain showers over several areas.
On Friday, Feb. 13, Bicol Region, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms from the easterlies.
The rest of Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao will have cloudy skies with light rains, while Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Calabarzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains from the northeast monsoon.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
By Saturday, Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, Loreto said the eastern sections of the country may see higher chances of rainfall.
Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Aurora will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the shear line, while Eastern Visayas and Caraga will have similar conditions from the easterlies.
The rest of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
From Sunday, Feb. 15, to Tuesday, Feb. 17, Chinese New Year, Cagayan and Batanes will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains from the northeast monsoon (amihan), while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers from the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
From Wednesday, Feb. 18, to Friday, Feb. 20, Eastern Visayas and Caraga will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with rain, while the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains from the amihan.
The rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
Loreto said no gale warnings are currently in effect over any of the country’s seaboards.
