Marcos orders swift action on key infra projects in Zamboanga Peninsula

President Marcos has directed the Regional Development Council (RDC) IX to speed up the implementation of priority infrastructure projects in the region.
Marcos made the directive when he presided over a meeting with Cabinet officials and key members of the RDC IX at the Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The President emphasized that the infrastructure projects must be delivered as scheduled, as these are aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, boosting agricultural and fisheries production, and supporting the overall regional growth.
During the meeting, they discussed updates on high-impact projects in the Zamboanga Peninsula region, including the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex Improvement, which is scheduled to be completed this year.
Other priority infrastructure projects discussed were the Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood Road; Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project; Daang Maharlika Improvement; Western Nautical Highway Network Improvement; and Coastal Roads along Rock Dive Inn, Crystal, Azul Mar, Love, Pangpang, and Solaj Beaches, which are targeted to be completed in the next two years.
Meanwhile, projects in the pipeline include the new Zamboanga Airport, the Zamboanga Peninsula Integrated Fisheries Development Complex, and the San Ramon New Port Project.
Discussion also focused on key interventions to address the major developmental challenges flagged by the RDC.
According to Malacañang, the President conveyed the commitment of the national government to implement projects that will reduce poverty, enhance education, and modernize the agri-fisheries sector in the region.
The President also directed the Department of Education (DepEd) and other concerned agencies to accelerate reforms in education and skills training, and the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ramp up efforts towards increasing the region’s agriculture productivity.
