Mayor Isko lauds Manila police for sharp decrease in crimes
The Manila City Government vowed to fully support the Manila Police District (MPD) amid the sharp decline in the city's crime rate in 2025 and attributed this to the police force's relentless pursuit of justice and expanded efforts in ensuring peace and order in the nation's capital.
During the MPD's 125th founding anniversary on Friday, Feb. 13, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso highlighted a 13.08 percent decline in overall crime incidents in the fourth quarter of 2025, alongside improved crime solution efficiency and continued financial support for the police force.
Data showed that cases dropped from 2,110 in the third quarter to 1,834 in the fourth quarter—a decrease of 276 incidents.
Domagoso also reported that crime solution efficiency rose by 9.2 percent during his administration’s first 100 days, indicating a higher rate of perpetrators being identified and apprehended compared to previous months.
In his remarks, the mayor called police service a rare opportunity as he urged police officers to value the mandate entrusted to them. He also asked for a moment of silence for the fallen personnel who risked their lives to safeguard Manila’s communities and institutions.
“Many are called, but few are chosen. On behalf of the people of Manila, I would like to thank MPD chief Gen. Arnold Abad, the officers of their respective precincts and PCPs, and those who are patrolling in these streets," Domagoso said.
He also issued a stern warning to criminals that the city government will pursue them through lawful means.
“’Pag ginawa mo ang krimen sa Maynila, may kalalagyan ka. We will go after you. We will go spend every single cent, whatever is available in our legal resources, to apprehend you to pay the price of your crime. Ngayon, bukas, sa isang linggo, sa isang buwan, kahit ilang taon pa ’yan, basta ginawa mo sa Maynila, mahuhuli ka dito sa amin (If you commit a crime in Manila, you will surely be caught. We will go after you. We will go spend every single cent, whatever is available in our legal resources to apprehend you and make you pay the price of your crime. Today, tomorrow, in a week, in a month, even if it's been a year, as long as you did it in Manila, we will make sure you will be caught)," the local chief executive exclaimed.
The city government recently released P26.03 million in allowances for MPD personnel covering the fourth quarter of 2025.
Domagoso later went to Chiang Kai Shek College, where he formally received 20 motorcycles for the MPD to enhance their patrol mobility and strengthen police visibility in the city.
Domagoso thanked Chiang Kai Shek College and all other partners in the private sector for working hand-in-hand with the city government and the MPD to help ensure peace and order in Manila.
