The Manila City Government has approved the distribution of P11 million in financial assistance to patients under the its KAAGAPAY Program, extending support to residents facing serious medical conditions.
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso made the statement on Friday, Feb. 13, during his “Talk to the Patients” event, where he assured the city’s residents of the government’s commitment to helping those burdened by hospitalization and other expenses.
Domagoso said the financial aid aims to ease the pressure on families already coping with illness, particularly those still recovering emotionally and financially from medical emergencies.
He also assured beneficiaries that the city government would continue reaching out to more residents in need, including patients currently confined in hospitals and children undergoing treatment.
“Yung pera mawawala, kikitain ulit. Pero 'yung buhay pag nawala... huwag naman sana (Money lost can still be earned. But a person's life is priceless and should always be taken care of)," the mayor noted.
“I hope your City Government of Manila and the taxpayers of Manila were able to provide a solution to your problem, or at least greatly reduce it. Be at peace. What happened to you can happen to anybody," he added.
Domagoso attributed Manila's ability to provide assistance to its improved fiscal management and the continued trust of Manila taxpayers.
He stressed that public funds are being directed toward urgent social services as part of his administration's Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) initiative aimed at assisting Manileños in addressing their basic needs such as housing, jobs, livelihood, education, and health.
