Man evading checkpoint caught with marijuana, tuklaw cigarettes in Antipolo
A motorcycle rider was arrested after attempting to evade a checkpoint and found with marijuana and cigarette sticks of suspected tuklaw (black cigarettes) in Antipolo City, Rizal on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The Antipolo City Component Police Station (Antipolo CCPS) said the suspect, identified as “John,” was arrested after evading officers conducting a Comelec checkpoint in Sitio Pangolorin, Barangay Calawis, at around 2 p.m.
Authorities said they flagged down the suspect, but instead of stopping, he suddenly accelerated his motorcycle and attempted to escape. However, officers were able to stop him, which resulted in his arrest for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
Authorities also confiscated a heat-sealed transparent plastic containing about 15 grams of suspected marijuana, worth around P1,800. They also seized a cigarette box, four sticks of suspected tuklaw, and a glass pipe with marijuana residue.
The suspect is now in police custody and is facing charges for disobedience and resistance to a person in authority and violations of Sections 11 and 12, Article II of Republic Act 9165.
