Two hurt after garbage truck runs over motorcycle in QC
Two people were hurt after a garbage truck ran over a motorcycle along Sgt. Rivera street corner Sto. Domingo, Quezon City, on Wednesday night, Feb. 11.
According to Barangay Manresa Public Safety Officer Edwin Terencio, the motorcycle rider was dragged for about 10 meters, while his back rider was dragged nearly five meters following the incident.
The rider suffered a serious injury to his left leg, while the passenger sustained cuts and abrasions.
“Yung binti niya wala na talagang laman. Nakita namin puro buto na lang, balat at buto na lang talaga. Yung angkas naman, may mga galos lang (“His leg had no flesh left. We saw that it was just bone—just skin and bone. while the passenger only had some abrasions),” Tenecio said.
The truck was heading to San Mateo, Rizal to dispose of the garbage when the incident occurred.
According to the 42-year-old truck driver, he did not notice a motorcycle moving in front of his vehicle.
“Hindi ko napansin. Stop po kami noon, may sinusundan akong trailer. Nung nag-go, hindi ko napansin na nasa kanan pala yung motor. Nung umandar kami, lumipat pala sa harap ko. Hindi ko napansin na nasa ilalim na sila. May bumubusina sa likod, akala ko nakasagi ako. Kung hindi siya bumusina nang malakas, hindi ako hihinto. May motor na pala sa ilalim (“I didn’t notice it. We were stopped at that time and I was following a trailer. When we started moving, I didn’t realize the motorcycle was on my right. When we moved forward, they had already shifted in front of me. I didn’t notice they were already underneath. Someone was honking behind me—I thought I had just sideswiped something. If he hadn’t honked loudly, I wouldn’t have stopped. There was already a motorcycle underneath),” he said.
Both victims were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The truck driver is now under the custody of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 1 as authorities continue their investigation.
Police are awaiting the victims' decision on whether to file charges against the driver.
