Recto meets Metro Manila mayors on LGSF rollout, stresses transparency, efficiency

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto met with Metro Manila’s 17 mayors to discuss the implementation of the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and align national and local development priorities.
In a Facebook post, the Office of the Executive Secretary said the meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10, focused on briefing local chief executives on the 2026 LGSF, which carries the largest allocation for local government units in the fund’s history and is intended to support locally driven projects across communities.
It said the expanded allocation reflects President Marcos’ push to ensure that economic growth reaches grassroots levels, including barangays, municipalities, and cities.
Recto discussed with the mayors the plans for high-impact programs tailored to local needs, emphasizing coordination between national and local governments in project design and execution.
“The Executive Secretary consulted and worked closely with the mayors to plan locally driven, high-impact programs and projects tailored to their communities’ needs,” the OES said on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The Palace official likewise underscored the need for efficient and transparent use of resources so that funding translates into immediate and tangible benefits for residents.
According to the OES, the consultation was also meant to ensure that LGSF resources would be directed toward initiatives with measurable outcomes and clear public impact.
Metro Manila mayors, for their part, expressed support for the administration’s development agenda and thanked the President for expanding access to the fund.
The LGSF is a national government mechanism that provides financial assistance to local governments for priority programs and infrastructure, forming part of broader efforts to strengthen local capacity and accelerate inclusive development nationwide.
In 2026, the LGSF reached a record-high allocation of P57.87 billion, focusing on enhancing local governance and development, particularly for marginalized areas.
