Organizers of the People Power 40 kick-off concert said the Feb. 21 event at the Quezon Memorial Circle will carry the theme “Awit at Aksyon Kontra Korapsyon” as it seeks to link the legacy of the 1986 uprising with renewed calls to combat corruption.
The Mayors for Good Governance and Kaya Natin! said the concert aims to rekindle the spirit of the peaceful revolution while inspiring citizens to intensify ongoing efforts for transparency and accountability.
“People Power proved that the Filipino people, when united, can stand up to injustice and demand accountability,” the organizers said.
“This concert is a way to honor that legacy while encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to continue the fight for transparency and good governance,” they added.
Organizers said the initiative also intends to remind Filipinos that the unity and courage that helped restore democracy four decades ago can be harnessed in confronting present-day governance challenges.
They emphasized that promoting clean governance and accountability should remain a shared civic responsibility among citizens and institutions.
The concert will feature performances by Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Rivermaya, Ice Seguerra, Ebe Dancel, Pio Balbuena, Morobeats, Elmo Magalona, Arkin Magalona, Chelsea Alley, and Over October.
Also joining the program are comedians Vice Ganda, Alex Calleja, and Red Ollero; actresses Iza Calzado and Bea Binene; and DJ JhaiHo.
Organizers said the pre-show will begin at 4 p.m., with the main concert scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The event forms part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the 1986 People Power uprising, which restored democratic rule after the fall of the Marcos dictatorship.
