Those planning Valentine’s weekend dates may not have to worry about a tropical cyclone, but they may still need an umbrella, as rains are expected in several parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Feb. 12.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said no tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility over the next two to three days, but the public should continue monitoring PAGASA updates in case of significant changes.
She said three weather systems are currently affecting the country.
The shear line, formed by the meeting of cold air from the northeast and warm air from the east, is expected to bring a high chance of rain to eastern Luzon and the Visayas over the next 24 hours.
Scattered rains or isolated thunderstorms may prevail over Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte.
De la Cruz-Galicia added that the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” continues to bring cooler conditions over parts of Luzon.
Cloudy skies with light monsoon rains are expected over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora, while Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, are also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, and Southern Leyte.
The rest of the country will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, de la Cruz-Galicia said.
She also said no gale warning is currently in effect over any of the country’s seaboards.
