The driver of a vehicle that ran over a student who fell from the LRT-1 Fernando Poe Jr. station will undergo inquest proceedings for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said.
QCPD spokesperson Police Major Jenny Gannaban said the driver remains under police custody as authorities prepare documents for the filing of charges.
“Sa ngayon under custody pa rin po natin ‘yung driver nung sasakyan na nakasagasa nung magkataong tumalon ‘yung estudyante doon sa LRT and inaayos po ‘yung documents para ma-inquest po siya. I-file po natin ‘yung reckless imprudence resulting in homicide (For now, the driver of the vehicle that ran over the student who happened to jump from the LRT remains under our custody, and we are preparing the documents for his inquest. We will file a case for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide),” Gannaban said on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, after a male student allegedly fell from the Fernando Poe Jr. Station of LRT Line 1 onto EDSA.
Witnesses said the victim was subsequently struck and dragged by a passing vehicle.
The driver reportedly stopped immediately and maintained that he was not involved in the incident.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the sequence of events from the student’s fall to the vehicular impact.
