Driver in LRT fall incident cleared of negligence, released from custody — QCPD
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Thursday, Feb. 12, said its investigation found no apparent negligence on the part of the driver involved in the fatal incident along EDSA Northbound on Feb. 11, which claimed the life of a male student who fell from the LRT-1 Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ) Station.
In a press statement, the QCPD said a thorough investigation, including a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, showed no indication that the driver was at fault in the incident that occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Initial reports said the student reportedly fell from the platform area of the FPJ LRT-1 Station onto EDSA and was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle.
Police said the driver fully cooperated with authorities and was placed under police custody in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), as the case involved a fatality.
The QCPD clarified that taking the driver into custody was part of the investigative process to ensure proper documentation and compliance with legal requirements.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father executed a notarized letter stating that he is no longer pursuing a complaint against the driver.
Following these developments, the driver was released from the custody of Traffic Sector 6 at around 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The QCPD extended its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public of its commitment to conducting a fair, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident.
