DILG raises Atong Ang's bounty to P20 M

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has increased to P20 million the reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the move is aimed at encouraging more people to provide information in a bid to bring Ang to the courts that issued arrest warrants against him in relation to the case of the missing sabungeros.
“We are increasing the bounty for Atong Ang to P20 million for information leading to his arrest. We are serious on this matter,” said Remulla in a press briefing in Quezon City, adding that the fund came from DILG and the PNP.
“This money is already life-changing, it will change your life so I think this will help (in the operation to get Ang),” he added.
Ang went into hiding last month after a Laguna court issued an arrest warrant against him for cases of kidnapping with homicide and kidnapping with serious illegal detention, both a non-bailable offense.
All the respondents in the case, including policemen, were already arrested except for Ang.
Later, a Batangas court also issued an arrest warrant against Ang and on Thursday, a court in Laguna issued the third warrant against him.
Remulla expressed belief that Ang is still in the country, a position that was apparently reinforced by the declaration of the Cambodia government that it has not monitored the businessman entering and hiding in the country.
National police chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. earlier lauded the Cambodia government for its cooperation and assistance in hunting down Ang and declared that it is proof of the two countries’ good working relationship in terms of law enforcement.
Remulla said they continuously verify all the information they receive in connection with the operation to get Ang.
“We are studying it (Cambodia government statement), we really believe that he is still here,” said Remulla.
“We have points of interest, the PNP has leads and the manhunt is going on,” he added.
Hotlines
Police Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said they already provided hotlines for those who are interested to take home the reward money.
He said tipsters may call PNP-CIDG HOTLINES *0960-6923025* and *0456-115926*, saying the hotline is open 24.7.
“The CIDG urges the public to report to PNP-CIDG HOTLINES all information leading to the arrest of Atong Ang. No questions asked, P20 million reward is guaranteed,” said Morico.
Morico said posters with photo and possible locations of the accused are posted/hanged in CIDG offices and conspicuous places nationwide.
“The increase of the reward money, the setting-up of hotlines, and posting of posters aim to speed up the capture of the fugitive, and to expedite the administration of justice to all the victims and their families,” said Morico.
