BACOLOD CITY – The 11-year-old boy buried in a beach in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Feb. 9, suffered sexual abuse and died by asphyxia by strangulation, police said.
Police Lt. Col. Norberto Barniso, Cauayan police chief, said that post-mortem examination conducted by the Municipal Health Office is not conclusive to establish there was foul play behind the minor’s death, unless an autopsy will be conducted.
Barniso said they encouraged the victim’s family to subject his body to an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
He said post-mortem results can initially be used in the investigation, but to establish a crime, a witness is necessary for a strong case buildup.
Barniso said they have gathered statements from some people, but a primary witness has yet to appear.
He said there were no markings or signs of struggle initially seen on the victim when he was found.
