ILOILO CITY – The 3rd Infantry Division said the killing of a soldier by a colleague inside their headquarters in Capiz province is an isolated incident.
“This is an isolated incident and does not reflect the discipline, professionalism, and values upheld by its soldiers,” the 3rd ID said.
Private First Class Wencel Jay Puntuan, 26, died after he was shot by Private First Class Rosarjoe Manajero, 31, inside his barracks in Camp Peralta in Jamindan town on Feb. 9.
The suspect fled the scene and he was allegedly drinking inside the mess hall before the incident.
Police has yet to establish the motive and there was no confrontation between the two soldiers assigned to the 6th Cavalry Company of the Armor Division.
“The 3rd ID is not tolerating such behavior and is fully cooperating with the authorities to guarantee that justice is served,” the 3rd ID said.
The suspect is facing murder charges and the 3rd ID is conducting a parallel investigation to ensure that justice is delivered and prevent similar incidents in the future.
