'Trillion Peso March Part 3' set on Feb. 25 to mark 40th EDSA anniversary

The “Trillion Peso March Part 3” is set to take place on Feb. 25 along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) as part of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution.

Organizers said on Wednesday, Feb 11, the mass mobilization will bring together civil society groups, Church leaders, youth advocates, Martial Law veterans, and families of extrajudicial killing victims.
The activity carries the theme “Tayo ang People Power laban sa Korapsyon at Dinastiya (We are the People Power against corruption and dynasties).”
According to organizers, the event will begin with a 7 a.m. prayer march from the EDSA Shrine, followed by a main program at the People Power Monument at 3 p.m.
Parallel commemorations are also expected to be held in 86 Catholic dioceses nationwide.
The march aims to honor the heroes of the People Power movement, call for an end to political dynasties, and push for reforms against corruption and poverty.
Among the groups joining the march is Akbayan, which described “people power” as a response to political dynasties and corruption.
Akbayan President Rafaela David said the anniversary serves as a reminder that the goals of the 1986 uprising remain unfinished.
“Filipinos have flooded EDSA four decades ago to express that they do not want a single family to rule the Philippines. Pero hanggang ngayon, iilang pamilya pa rin ang namumuno sa bansa. She added that the 1987 Constitution mandates the prohibition of political dynasties, but Congress has yet to pass an enabling law.
“The EDSA Constitution has already mandated the banning of political dynasties. Panahon na para tuparin ang pangako ng EDSA. Ipasa na natin ang Anti-Dynasty Law at ipanalo ang mga ordinaryong Pilipino (The EDSA Constitution has already mandated the banning of political dynasties. It is time to fulfill the promise of EDSA. Let us pass the Anti-Dynasty Law and let ordinary Filipinos win),” she said.
David also described people power as the best antidote to dynastic power.
"Sustained civic action is necessary to prevent the concentration of authority in the hands of a few political families," She added.
