In a statement, the city government said the decision affirms the application of Article 148 of the Family Code, which provides for co-ownership of properties acquired by couples living together without marriage, based on their actual contributions.
It added that the ruling aligns with Quezon City’s long-standing commitment to equality and inclusive governance, particularly in advancing policies that protect the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The local government described the decision as a significant development in promoting fairness and upholding human dignity, noting that justice and equal protection under the law should apply to all, regardless of gender.
“Para sa pamahalaang lungsod, ang desisyong ito ay hindi lamang pagpapatibay ng umiiral na batas ng ating republika, kundi mahalagang hakbang ng pagkilala sa dignidad at karapatang pantao ng mga miyembro ng LGBTQIA+ community (For the city government, this decision is not only an affirmation of existing laws of our republic, but also an important step in recognizing the dignity and human rights of members of the LGBTQIA+ community),” it said.
The LGU said it will continue to coordinate with national agencies and partner institutions to support measures that strengthen equal rights and opportunities for all residents.
It also emphasized its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is respected and every citizen is treated with fairness and dignity.
“Kasama ang iba’t ibang institusyon ng pamahalaan, makakaasa kayong patuloy na kikilos ang lokal na pamahalaan para sa isang tunay na makulay, pantay, at maunlad na bukas para sa bawat mamamayang Pilipino (Together with various government institutions, you can expect the local government to continue working toward a truly diverse, equal, and progressive future for every Filipino citizen),” the city government said.
