PLDT tries to follow up its strong start when it tangles with Capital1 in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the High Speed Hitters seeking for their second win to join the Nxled Chameleons at second place.
Akari and ZUS Coffee, meanwhile, seek to bounce back from recent defeats in their 6:30 p.m. tussle.
Riding the momentum of a commanding 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of multi-titled Creamline last week, PLDT looks primed to deliver another statement performance. At the heart of that triumph was Savi Davison, who powered the High Speed Hitters’ relentless assault with 26 points built on 23 kills and three blocks.
But expect Capital1 to lean on its own weapon in Bella Belen, who erupted for 26 points in the team’s 25-17, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19 victory over ZUS Coffee that leveled its record at 1-1.
The early showdown between Davison and Belen, two of the league’s most explosive hitters, is expected to ignite the duel and set the tone for what promises to be a high-octane clash.
But the true difference-maker could be the reinforcements backing them up.
Davison is set to join forces with Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo, while Belan has Ysa Jimenez, Shaya Adorador and Ponggay Gaston, who also posted double-digit numbers the last time.
Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee tries to crawl out of a 0-2 hole in its match against Akari, a team also seeking to erase an opening-match defeat against Choco Mucho.
Out to stabilize the Thunderbelles are Thea Gagate, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Riza Nogales and Chinnie Arroyo against Akari’s own Fifi Sharma, Ced Domingo and Eli Soyud.
