PAGASA warns of persistent rains in Visayas, parts of Luzon and Mindanao due to shear line
Moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue over Visayas, eastern Luzon, and northeastern Mindanao in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of the shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the shear line, which is the collision of cold air from the northeast and warm air from the east, is continuously affecting the Visayas.
She noted that moderate to heavy rains may persist over Visayas, as well as in Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.
PAGASA warned that flash floods and landslides are still possible in these areas.
Dominguez added that the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” continues to affect the entire Luzon.
Cloudy skies with light rains are expected over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of the Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon, while Metro Manila and most of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorm activity.
Dominguez added that PAGASA is not monitoring any tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of Wednesday.
Likewise, no gale warnings are currently in effect over any of the country’s seaboards.
