Navy sends 80 tons of construction materials to Calayan Island
The Philippine Navy (PN) on Wednesday announced that its Northern Luzon Naval Command (NLNC), through landing craft BRP Waray (LC-288), delivered some 80 tons of building materials and other items needed for construction and other development projects in Calayan Island, Cagayan.
In a statement, the PN said BRP Waray initially transported 15.6 tons of rolling cargoes on first sortie to the island last Feb. 1.
And on the second mission that transpired last Feb. 6, the naval vessel transported and unloaded "approximately 64.15 tons of essential materials, including 1,150 sacks of cement, 270 sacks of feeds, 250 GI sheets, 75 pieces of laminated wood, 300 pieces of steel bar, and two pails of paint."
"Carried out in coordination with the (Calayan) local government unit, a total of 80 tons of cargo were successfully transported and delivered to support the ongoing and planned construction projects in the said island," the PN said.
It added these materials are expected to contribute significantly to infrastructure development and improvement of basic services for the local community.
The Navy said these successful transport missions highlighted its continued commitment to national development efforts and initiatives in assisting geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. (PNA)
