First Gen to supply geothermal power to Jollibee facilities
First Gen Corp., the power generation arm of the Lopez family, has expanded its partnership with Jollibee Foods Corp. to supply the restaurant giant with renewable energy for nearly all the electricity needs of its key manufacturing facilities.
In a statement on Wednesday, Feb. 11, FGen said the energy producer is now providing 11 megawatts of geothermal power from its Bacman facilities to the Jollibee Group.
The agreement between FGen and Jollibee ensures that 99 percent of the electricity used by the fast-food company’s covered commissaries and logistics hubs is sourced from renewable energy.
The transition to geothermal power is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70 percent across the designated sites. This latest move builds on a 2023 collaboration where FGen oversaw the installation of 17,000 solar panels, totaling nine megawatts, at Jollibee’s distribution centers in Parañaque and Laguna. Those solar projects, alongside a remote energy monitoring system designed to optimize consumption, reached completion in 2024.
The shift toward sustainable power comes as Jollibee, one of Asia’s largest food service companies, seeks to insulate its supply chain from the volatility of traditional fuel markets while meeting environmental targets.
Michael Ong, president for manufacturing and logistics at Jollibee Group, said the transition provides a reliable energy foundation for the company’s expanding operations, noting that the move ensures energy stability for the long term.
Joseph Tanbuntiong, Jollibee Group Philippines president and global head of the Jollibee brand, emphasized that the environmental impact of the company's back-end operations is increasingly central to its growth strategy.
He noted that the way the company powers its facilities is a critical component of ensuring consistent service as the brand scales its footprint.
For FGen, the deal reinforces its position as a primary provider of “clean” baseload power in the Philippines through its extensive geothermal portfolio.
Carlo Vega, FGen chief customer engagement officer, said the partnership reflects a disciplined approach to growth by investing in systems that support both local and global expansion.
While the companies did not disclose the specific financial terms or the duration of the supply contract, the integration of both solar and geothermal assets highlights a diversifying strategy for industrial energy users in the country.
