ILOILO CITY – Former Senate President Frank Drilon urged Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla to probe flood controls here.
“Because of the questionable projects here in Iloilo City, I call on the Ombudsman to hasten the investigation,” the Iloilo City native said during the presentation of his memoir on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Drilon cited the multi-billion flood control projects undertaken by Discaya companies.
“I don’t see anything to justify (the cost of the projects),” said Drilon.
Drilon expressed concern over the involvement of the Discayas in infrastructure projects in Iloilo City.
“I don’t know how the Discayas got into the city. They were never here before. When I was still active, the Discayas were nowhere,” Drilon noted.
Drilon urged the Ombudsman to act like the DPWH when
Secretary Vince Dizon finally removed Engr. Roy Pacanan as the district engineer of Iloilo City after the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said he is ineligible.
“I hope our Ombudsman will act with the same haste as demonstrated by Secretary Dizon. The public expects no less when billions of pesos in flood control funds are involved,” added Drilon who has facilitated substandard projects here – the Aganan and Ungka Flyovers – which are subjects of Ombudsman complaints.
Groups and residents have urged accountability, but no ruling has been made so far.
