Cebu City court orders release of Kerwin Espinosa

TACLOBAN CITY — The Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 14 ordered the release of Mayor Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for lack of jurisdiction over his case as it happened in Baybay City, Leyte.
Espinosa was freed from the Cebu City Jail at past 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The Albuera, Leyte mayor surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation in Cebu on Thursday, Feb. 5, following the issuance of warrants of arrest against him and four others for a murder case in September 2024.
Espinosa said he was willing to face the charges against him. He claimed that his political opponents were trying to distract him from his service.
