DURANO
CEBU CITY – The repair of two major bridges in Danao City, northern Cebu province will start soon. The Office of the President and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have agreed to reprogram the 2026 funds for their repairs.
This development came after Danao Mayor Nito Durano rejected several infrastructure projects proposed by the DPWH for implementation in 2026.
Durano said the proposed projects were mostly repair and re-concreting works on roads that are still in good condition.
In declining the proposal, Durano asked the Office of the President to reprogram the funds and use them to repair the Guinacot-Quisol Bridge and Danao Bridge 1.
The Office of the President referred Durano’s letter-request to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon. The DPWH Central Office wrote DPWH-7 Director Danilo Villa Jr. to act on Durano’s “urgent infrastructure concerns.”
Durano welcomed the reallocation of funds for the repair of the two bridges damaged by typhoon ‘’Tino’’ last year.
Durano said the two damaged bridges affected transportation, emergency response, education, and local economy.
“The Guinacot-Quisol Bridge and Danao Bridge 1 are not just projects. These are lifelines of the community,” Durano said.
Durano thanked the Office of the President for acting on his appeal.
“The support of the Office of the President reprogramming the 2026 DPWH budget for Danao is a big help to realize the city’s priority call after the destruction caused by typhoon Tino,” Durano said.
