BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Joedith Gallego has called on the suspect in the attack on three siblings in Silay City, Negros Occidental, to surrender.
In a media interview on Tuesday, Feb. 10, Gallego said the suspect would not escape accountability for the crime. "Surrender now. You cannot keep whatever crime you have committed," he said.
The mayor said the city government stands with the victims’ family in their pursuit of justice.
Gallego expressed deep sorrow over the incident and thanked individuals who have provided assistance to the victims. He urged people with information to coordinate with authorities and help resolve the case.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan visited the two survivors in a hospital and the wake of the nine-year-old victim.
The OWWA has extended financial and livelihood assistance for Ronelyn, the victims' mother, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW).
She was repatriated from Saudi Arabia and returned home on Sunday, Feb. 8, with the assistance of her employer and OWWA.
Meanwhile, the skeletal remains of an eight-year-old girl who went missing during typhoon “Tino” last year was found in Hacienda Alicia, Barangay 5, Isabela, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
She was positively identified by her grandmother through her clothes and bracelet. Her remain have been turned over to her family.
