This year’s board is composed of John Ted Cordero (President), Lorenz Marasigan (Vice President for External Affairs), Maria Bernadette Romero (Vice President for Internal Affairs), Beatriz Cruz (Secretary), Jed Aldous Macapagal (Treasurer), and Brix Lelis (Auditor). Its Board of Directors include Gerard de la Peña, Louella Desiderio, Alena Mae Flores, Jordeene Lagare, and Lenie Lectura.
The Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) seated its new leaders on Monday, Feb. 10, marking the start of what its new president calls “golden decade” for the country’s top business press group.
John Ted Cordero of GMA Integrated News took over as president during a ceremony. He heads a board tasked with improving the quality of financial reporting as the organization nears its 50th anniversary. Joining him are Maria Bernadette Romero of Daily Tribune as vice president for internal affairs and Lorenz Marasigan of BusinessMirror as vice president for external affairs.
The transition comes as the government faces pressure to manage inflation and food supply. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., who swore in the new officers, told the group that “progress is built by partners” and thanked the journalists for four decades of “keeping score” on government performance. He urged the association to continue asking hard questions of those in power.
In his speech, Cordero said the 2026 board will focus on modernization while keeping the group’s traditions alive. His plan includes more training for reporters through seminars and forums to help them cover complex economic issues. He also plans to expand the group's reach through new outreach programs.
The other officers for the year include Beatriz Cruz of BusinessWorld as secretary, Jed Aldous Macapagal of Malaya Business Insight as treasurer, and Brix Lelis of The Philippine Star as auditor.
The board of directors is made up of veteran reporters from the country’s major newspapers and broadcast networks, including Lenie Lectura, Louella Desiderio, Gerard de la Peña, Alena Mae Flores, and Jordeene Lagare.
