DAVAO CITY – The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has expressed optimism that the investigation into the killing of a Digos City barangay captain last November would soon be resolved.
During a command visit to Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) here Monday, Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed PRO-11 chief Police Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete to employ all measures to solve the murder of Barangay Tres de Mayo Captain Oscar “Dodong” Bucol Jr. who was shot while livestreaming on Nov. 25, 2025.
“Can we give timeline? Huwag natin bigyan ng timeline, ipa-relieve nalang natin (kung gusto natin) ang provincial director kung hindi pa naresolba (Let’s not set a timeline. We can relieve the provincial director if the case remains unresolved),” Nartatez said in an interview.
He cited his past success in solving a high-profile road rage case within 20 hours as evidence of what focused pressure can achieve.
Nartatez also urged public cooperation, stating community-provided information is vital for securing convictions. (PNA)

Meanwhile, a police officer was found dead inside his office at the PRO-11 headquarters.
The body of Police Lt. Col. Deozar Almasa was discovered hours before the visit of Nartatez.
Nartatez led a moment of silence for Almasa and ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that no lapses occur in resolving the case.
The PRO-11 has condoled with the family of the victim.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. His passing is felt by the entire PRO-11 community, and we stand in solidarity with his family and fellow personnel during this difficult time.”
“The incident is currently being looked into by the proper authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. Further information will be released once details are officially verified,” the PRO-11 said.
“PRO-11 respectfully appeals to the public to refrain from speculation and to allow the bereaved family the privacy, respect, and compassion they need as they mourn.”
