CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Iligan City continued to receive support from organizations and other local government units for its post-flood recovery efforts.
In a press briefing Monday, Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council head Armien Alloro said the local government has coordinated with other government agencies, including the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), to speed up support for affected residents.
"We are coordinating with PSA with their CBMS (Community-Based Monitoring System) data of evacuees to streamline with the data from our CSWD (City Social Welfare and Development)," she said.
Alloro said Mayor Frederick Siao ordered that all affected communities be provided with all support and relief packages as soon as possible.
Immediately after the aftermath of tropical cyclone “Basyang” last week, the Iligan City Waterworks System (ICWS) ensured supply in affected areas, especially evacuation centers.
ICWS Engineer Hubert Reyes said about 60 percent of the pipelines under the Tubod Bridge have been repaired and are expected to be completed this week. However, some pipes could take several days to restore because they are embedded in mud and require cutting, draining, or cleaning.
In the House of Representatives, Iligan Rep. Celso Regencia filed a resolution on Monday calling for support from fellow lawmakers.
Regencia tasked his chief of staff to assist the Department of Public Works and Highways in coordination and support implementation.
Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy sent a support team equipped with heavy machinery to assist Iligan City.
After the visit of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian to evacuation centers over the weekend, Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon will arrive on Tuesday to meet Iligan officials and inspect affected bridges and flood control dikes.
