Geely confirms Q1 arrival of new EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid

There are signs of new life from Chinese auto brand Geely, as they have confirmed the introduction of a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model in the Philippine market, arriving within the first quarter of the year. The upcoming model will add to the brand’s growing range of electrified vehicles offered locally.
The EX5 EM-I has recently been sighted in camouflage at local ports and customs areas, indicating that units have already entered the country ahead of an official launch. While Geely has yet to unveil the model or release local specifications formally, the sightings confirm preparations are underway for its market introduction.
Photos of the camouflaged units also show at least two different wheel designs, suggesting that the EX5 EM-I may be offered in more than one configuration when it reaches the local market. Geely has not confirmed variant names or equipment levels at this stage, and any differentiation based on the observed wheels remains unannounced.
Based on information from other markets where the model, or its equivalent, has already been introduced, the EX5 EM-I is positioned as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It is designed to combine electric driving capability with the flexibility of a hybrid powertrain, offering a balance between electric operation and extended driving range.
Geely has previously stated that it is pursuing a diversified electrification strategy across its global lineup, incorporating battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and internal combustion models. This approach allows the brand to tailor its offerings to different market conditions and customer needs.
The planned introduction of the EX5 EM-I comes as part of Geely’s broader product roadmap in the Philippines following the start of direct local operations. The company has indicated that additional new models across various segments and powertrain types are expected to follow as it continues to strengthen its local presence.
The EX5 EM-I will join the existing EX5 EV, the fully electric version of the same model line that was introduced to the Philippine market last year. The presence of the EX5 EV has established the EX5 nameplate locally as part of Geely’s initial push into battery-electric vehicles, providing context for the arrival of a plug-in hybrid variant aimed at offering an alternative electrified powertrain option.
With its arrival targeted within the first quarter, the EX5 EM-I is set to become Geely’s next plug-in hybrid offering for Filipino motorists as the brand continues to expand its electrified lineup in the country.
