The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has approved an additional five days of paid “wellness leave” annually for all its personnel.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the leave may be used for mental health care, physical wellness activities, or simply as a general break from work.
“This policy shall apply to all permanent, temporary, coterminous, and contractual employees, including Contract of Service and Job Order personnel in this Department,” Dizon added.
The new benefit, ordered through a department memorandum issued on Feb. 3, increases total leave credits for DPWH employees to nearly 40 days a year.
This combines 15 days of vacation leave, 15 days of sick leave, three days of special leave, and the newly added wellness leave, giving employees more time for rest and recovery.
The five-day wellness leave is non-convertible to cash, ensuring employees cannot monetize the benefit.
Dizon, who assumed leadership amid scrutiny over past flood control projects, said the move reflects the department’s commitment to employee welfare.
