Lava effusion was recorded at the summit crater of Mayon Volcano on Saturday evening, Feb. 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs said the lava effusion was logged at 6:03 p.m., as the volcano’s effusive eruption entered its 32nd consecutive day.
The agency said the continuing eruption has been producing incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or “uson,” and rockfall events, posing persistent hazards on the volcano’s slopes.
As of Feb. 5, Phivolcs said lava flows had reached radial distances of about 3.77 kilometers in the Basud (east) gully, around 1.59 kilometers in the Bonga (southeast) gully, and approximately 1.34 kilometers in the Mi-isi (south) gullies.
It noted that Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon, indicating magmatic unrest, with authorities reiterating that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to ongoing volcanic hazards.
