BACOLOD CITY – Police offered a P75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the attack on three siblings in Hacienda Badiang, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Mayor Joedith Gallego, in a video message on Sunday, Feb. 8, announced that the city government is giving a P25,000 reward for any information that would help the police identify and apprehend the suspect.
Gallego condemned the murder of the nine-year-old sibling. “This is so painful for the three children and their family. Let’s help one another to solve this case and give justice to the victims,” the mayor said.
The mayor assured informants that their identity won’t be revealed for their safety. He said that the perpetrator must face the consequences of his action.
Negros Occidental third district Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez also offered P50,000 reward and condemned the crime.
The Silay City Police Station sympathized with the family of the victims. “We share in the community’s grief and strongly condemn this senseless act of violence,” they said in a statement.
Police Lt. Col. Edison Garcia, Silay police chief, said that they are intensifying fact-finding operations, gathering evidence, and coordinating closely with concerned units to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable under the law.
Garcia said that they have persons of interest and hoping for the recovery of the two injured victims as their statements will be vital to the investigation.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has ordered the conduct of a thorough investigation.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, directed concerned units to pursue all leads and ensure that justice is served.
He condoled with the family of the victim. “We assure them that the police will exert all efforts to uncover the truth behind this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” Ibay said.
